Nike + Women's Half Marathon

This morning I ran the Nike + Women's Half Marathon. This is the first of many half marathons for 2012! It is a very cold day today. I bundled up and was out the door just after 6AM.

(A very tired face, I didn't sleep much at all last night!)
It was dark so I used my reflective vest. A half mile in I met up with my Mom. She paced me the whole way. We headed over to a neighborhood and ran some easy loops around. At five miles we left there and I was feeling good. We ran that in under an hour which was a pretty good pace for me. Facing into the wind was hard. It was REALLY cold!

We headed to the University track hoping to pick up the pace some and do a couple of miles, but with no protection from the wind I didn't last long there. We only did a mile. The cold affected my water bottle too. Even though I was constantly shaking it it was frozen! We ran around campus a bit and then did another loop around town and finished up at my house. 13.1 miles! It's a great feeling! To do it with my Mom was special...my first half...here's hoping I'm able to complete at least 11 more this year!

I came home and turned on the news just in time to see the weather forecastPhotobucket...yup, that's why I was so cold...feels like 7 in the wind is pretty darn COLD! A hot drink was a necessesity!

Official time: 2 hours 41 minutes.
Not fast for many, but that is a 12 minute mile pace and for me for a long run...that's pretty good! And look what I have to look forward to getting in the mail...

Yay for you and definitely awesome that you did it with your mom. I am so proud of you and inspired too. Hmmm, maybe I should just run the one next month rather than volunteer. I thought maybe I should take more time to train, but honestly, I worry I'll get unmotivated and lose my mojo. :)
